Elvis Presley Week

Elvis Presley passed away August 16, 1977. Elvis was born in Tupelo, MS where he grew up poor. He started his career by making a $4 gift at Sam Phillips studio, Sun Studios for his Mother. Sam Phillips was intrigued by Elvis’ voice and asked him to return to the studio to practice with local musicians. This was the launch of the “King of Rock and Roll”.

Last remaining Rat Pack casino-hotel, Sahara closes its doors

Fifty-nine years ago the Sahara “The Jewel of the Desert” casino-hotel opened its doors on the Las Vegas strip.

The original film, Ocean’s 11 was filmed at the Sahara in 1960. In August it would have been the 51st Anniversary.

The Sahara sponsored The Beatles’ first Vegas visit.

The Sahara had many entertainers grace their stage – such as:
Abbott and Costello, Johnny Carson, Sonny & Cher, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland to name a few.

Today the Sahara will close its doors for good. All existing reservations are being transferred to the Circus Circus Hotel.
