The slot canyon located in Arizona consists of two photogenic sections called the Crack and the Corkscrew. Formed by the erosion of the Navajo Sandstone, has been formed as the rain water eroded the sandstone to create a marvellous texture and the characteristic ‘flowing’ shapes in the rocks. Very popular with photographers and sightseers, the canyon is accessible only with a permit since 1997 from the Navajo Nation. The Upper Antelope Canyon is more frequented by tourists as the entrance is at ground level and the canyon is filled with beams of reflected sunlight.
No doubt we’ve all heard of the legend of Atlantis, the ancient, once great city that was lost when the ocean submerged it.
To this day the legendary city has yet to be found (or proven to have ever existed) yet over the years many other underwater cities have been found, each of them as eerie as they are mind blowing and beautiful.
Alt-rock godfather Tyson Meade will return this spring with a new solo album. After spending years living and teaching in Shanghai, the Oklahoma native will release Tomorrow in Progress on May 20. Spanning a total of 10 tracks, the upcoming LP features contributions from current Smashing Pumpkins bassist Nicole Fiorentino, longtime Pumpkins drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, the Flaming Lips keyboardist Derek Brown, and a violin prodigy by the name of Haffijy, who inspired the collection.
And now for the Grand Finale that started about a year and a half ago which has involved me getting kicked out of China twice, having nothing to do with the government but has more to do with inept Chinese sponsors but then that is another story. What you are seeing is the studio where I mixed a couple of the final songs. This one is called Buddy Dash and I have Guy Erez from Alan Parson playing bass, Kevin Dippold on guitar, Haffijy on violin, the wonderful Nicole Fiorentino duetting and the insanely fantastic Jimmy Chamberlain playing drums! Sometimes lemons do become lemonade. I was forced to leave China for visa reasons, though I have now procured a new Chinese visa here in the State and I will be returning to Shanghai after Chinese New Year. Packing an apartment, booking an air ticket, not to mention picking up a beautifully hand tailored silver suit, within 24 hours is bizarrely game show-like to say the least. But on the lemonade side of the coin (if we can mix metaphors), I was able to record with three high school students from a prestigious performing arts high school in Houston. The clip is them working out the part and me forgetting to turn off the camera. So there is an extra two minutes of dark (literally) conversation. I hope everyone enjoys this!

CHINA has started service on the world’s longest high-speed rail route, the latest milestone in the country’s rapid and – sometimes troubled – super fast rail network.
The opening of the new 2298-kilometre line, between Beijing and Guangzhou, means passengers will be whisked from the capital to the southern commercial hub in less than a third of the 22 hours previously required.
China Central Television broadcast the departure of the first train live from Beijing West Railway Station and also carried live reports from inside, showing passengers snapping commemorative photos.
Trains will travel at an average speed of 300 kilometres per hour over the line, which includes 35 stops in major cities such as Zhengzhou, Wuhan on the Yangtze River and Changsha.
‘The assignment was to video a day in your life. My thought was that this would be a great way for the students at Gezhi (where I teach part time) to have something to show their host family when they went to America. Bella, who is one of my most talented students, put the soundtrack of the class singing to this film which was a huge hit with her classmates. Everyone LOVED it!

Next week, our new brilliant brilliant brilliant Chinese teacher – who at 16 entered China’s Fudan University think Yale or Princeton in terms of prestige – is taking the class, me included, on a trek through the Chinese wilderness. Along the way, he has told me that we will be able to record traditional Chinese music in remote villages. In this video he is showing us some pictures of his trek and plotting our course. This is going to be really exciting and of course I will be taking more videos. Nonetheless, I hope I don’t get eaten by the Monkey King!
